Jacob Sauer Tree Care was invited to contribute to the City of Columbus’ plan for its tree canopy. Columbus leadership has announced its commitment to increasing the size of the tree canopy in Columbus, so that mature, tall trees shade more of the city.
The Urban Forestry Master Plan is the process the city is using to map out its future tree canopy, and Jacob Sauer Tree Care is proud to be asked to bring its experience and consultation to the process.
The city’s goal is to increase the number of mature trees in neighborhoods that don’t have many trees, including newer developments built on cleared land. Columbus is also working to re-establish trees in communities with existing trees that may be in decline due to disease, age, or instability.
A robust tree canopy helps individual homeowners and the city as a whole. Trees improve happiness and health, as well as providing shade, which lowers air conditioning bills in the summer. More trees means less sun reflected back from pavement, reducing surface temperatures citywide and influencing the climate.
Our company helped advise the city on sturdy trees to include in the plan; those which are not invasive and not prone to disease.
