Jacob Sauer Tree Service is on the leading edge of documenting, mapping and treating Oak Wilt in Central Ohio. This devastating disease lays waste to mighty oaks, and cannot be cured. However, we are able to prevent the spread with pruning recommendations and preventative treatments.

For trees at risk of oak wilt, we do not prune at certain times of the year.

We also can work with the Ohio State University and other partners to test your tree for Oak Wilt.

Treatment

We specialize in a macro injection of the trunk vs a micro injection.

A macro injection is more effective and better for the tree because the chemical propocomisol is diluted. We are giving the tree a high volume of diluted chemical so it spreads better throughout the tree. The treatment is more time consuming, but it’s better for the tree.

Most chemical treatments involve spraying the tree or pumping something into the ground at the roots. For this treatment for oak wilt, we put it into the base through tiny hoses in the base and root system. It’s painstaking work.

This is a preventative treatment, it’s not a cure. If your tree has oak wilt, your tree will not recover (with rare exceptions).

Mapping

Because oak wilt spreads locally, we are taking the lead and working with a partner to track and map the spread of oak wilt in Central Ohio. We are even working with other tree trimming companies to encourage more people to contribute to the mapping of oak wilt so we know where to concentrate our resources.
