Jacob Sauer is an arborist, and his training and passion support his ability to identify various hazards in trees.

He starts by inspecting the base of the tree to see if it is solid and whether has any fungus or fruiting bodies or hollow cavities. He looks at the structure of the tree–its trunk and major limbs–to see if it has good integrity.

Risk assessment.

Some trees, because of the way they grow toward the sun, around obstacles, or too quickly, have weaker sections.

Other trees are more physically stout.

We take into a account the foliage and based on the tree’s location and orientation, we assess the tree for different hazards. The way we as homeowner interact with our trees is an important part of the equation. Power lines and houses and kids’ play areas and car parking are all things to take into consideration. We look at a tree and decide what to prioritize. The section that overhangs a creek will get less attention than the section that overhangs your picnic table.

Being able to identify diseases and pests that weaken a tree make Jacob’s team an ally in the health of your home environment. We know the difference between diseases that don’t affect the tree as much and don’t need to be treated vs the ones that do.

We treat for Oak Wilt and Dutch Elm Disease. For other common tree diseases such as Emerald Ash Borer, we work with local partners who specialize in those.
