There are many ways to prune a tree. Some of those ways are quick and easy for the worker. Others are best for the tree. At Jacob Sauer Tree Care, we chose our name because we are interested in caring for trees, first and foremost. You’ll see that in evidence when you watch how we prune trees.

We take a less invasive approach than the quicker and less careful methods of some of our competitors. For example, “topping out” a tree is a practice that was used many years ago and has since been deemed to be wrong for trees. Some companies will take out all the foliage in the middle of the tree where it’s easier to reach, calling it “Lion Tailing” and leaving the foliage at the tips of the branches. This is stressful for the tree.

We take an approach that is less invasive for the tree. We prune what is necessary.

We take into account different diseases and pests. If it’s not safe to prune the tree at that time of year (oak particularly) shouldn’t be pruned during the growing season. We come back when it’s safe.

Our equipment allows us to access the tips of the limbs, so we can prune the tree so in the future it will grow the way we want it to. We can train the tree to grow away from your house or away from the neighboring tree other obstacles, instead of just lopping a limb off and distorting the shape of the tree.
